A FIRE at a primary school sparked the evacuation of nearby residents and damaged some six classrooms, leaving a repair bill of $1 million.
Fire crews were called to Carlingford West Public School on Felton Street, Carlingford - in Sydney's north-west - where one building was ablaze, about 11.45pm last night.. "The fire was soon under control, however the kindergarten building was gutted, with about six classrooms extensively damaged," NSW Police Force said in a statement. "Some nearby residents were evacuated for their safety until the fire was extinguished." Fire brigade and police investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze.
