Before the school was built
* The government gave land grants around Parramatta in the early New South Wales Colony.
* The land our school stands was granted to William Butts on 19th November, 1794. * William Butts came on the Second Fleet as a convict in 1790 and sentenced to 7 years. * The name Carlingford is thought to have come from Lord Carlingford who was the "Under Secretary to the Colonies from 1847-1860 OR after the town of Carlingford in Ireland. |

Memories from Marilyn Bisset
"I attended Carlingford Rural School (now Carlingford Public School). We travelled by bus from Baker street and walked home across the paddocks from Pennant Hills Road. The high school was at Carlingford Rural School at this time.
I started my high school education at Cumberland in 1966 and walked over planks across creeks and through the open fields of Carlingford. My little brother went to Burnside Public school for his first year of school as Carlingford Rural School was too full. Now there was a need for a new school.
